Dear Ms Lim,

Subject: Personal Strength and Weakness of Communication

My name is Chong Kai Jie Winfred, I am writing this letter to give you a brief introduction of myself. I am a student in your Effective Communication class that happens on Monday and Thursday. Having graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, which has armed me with a diploma in Hotel Leisure and Facilities Management. My passion for build environment was cultivated during my internship, which is the main reason why I decided to pursue a degree in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Service).

A communication skill that I more confident of is my report writing, as I was exposed to many writing opportunities during my polytechnic days and internship. However, after two years of not practicing I need to polish on the basic principles of writing, grammar and spelling.

As for weaknesses, there are many communication skills I would like to improve on but if I have to choose one, it will be public speaking. My challenge with public speaking is not being able to express myself properly and getting the intended message across. I tend to hesitate and use filler word during my presentation which makes me sound uncertain.

As for what I ultimately want to achieve after this module, is to be more professional and confident when conversing with people. Having better communication skills will allow me to convey my thoughts and ideas to another person more accurately and vice versa. Furthermore, it will aid with my career prospect and provide job security.

Looking forward to working with you. Thank you.

Your Sincerely,
Winfred

  3. Hi Winfred,

Josiah here. I enjoyed reading your blog as well as getting to know you more. There are somethings that you could have improved on, which was mainly your grammar. Things like, "build environment" and "filler word" were some mistakes that you made as well as missing a few commas.

Thanks for sharing with us and I hope we have fun in this module together.

    Regards,
    Josiah
